Perform a simple directory search
To search for a publicly listed individual or business, simply select the 'Search' option from the main menu. Now, you will be presented with a series of screens prompting you for information.
Firstly, you will need to select a country and search type. Once this step has been completed you will be prompted to enter either the person's surname or the business name. To enter information on these pages just type them in as you usually would on your keypad and select the 'OK' option.
To progress to the next screen you will need to select 'Next".
Please Note: On some Nokia mobiles the 'Next' option may need to be accessed from the 'Options' menu.
The next few data entry screens will vary depending on your search criteria, some of which will be optional. Optional fields do not have to be completed, however they will deliver more refined search results.
Once all the relevant information has been entered your search will attempt to initiate. At this point your phone will notify you that it is about to 'search a third party website'. To continue you must select 'OK'.
Finally, before creating a GPRS connection your phone will ask you to allow network access. Some models will allow you to set a preference for future connections, if this is the case we recommend you choose this option e.g."Yes, ask once" as seen on the Motorola E398. Otherwise, just choose the 'Yes' option.
Tips:
- If you are unsure of the spelling regarding a surname or business name, just enter the first few letters
- Refining your search parameters will give you more accurate results; try to enter as much information as possible.
On the return of your search results, scroll through the returned results. If the search has produced more than 20 listings, click the 'Next' and 'Prev' buttons to move forward and back through the listings.
To initiate a call, just highlight the desired number and select the 'Dial' option.
Refining your search
Often, a simple search will produce too many listings to be practical for you to sort through. The phone will issue a message informing you that you must refine your search. If you know any other basic information regarding the person or business you wish to contact, enter this information now and press 'Search' again.
Tips:
- If you enter a few letters in the initials field, the search will return all listings with initials starting with any of the letters you entered.
- Enter the first few letters of a street or suburb name in the Street or Suburb fields if you are unsure of the spelling.
What do I do if my search doesn't return any listings?
If your search is not returning any results, this may be due to one of several reasons:
- The number you are seeking may be an unlisted number. Unlisted numbers will not appear in any listings.
- Your spelling may be incorrect.
If this doesn't help, try reducing your search parameters by only entering information into the fields marked with a star.
Dialing a number
Numbers may only be dialed from the results returned from your search. To dial a phone number located by the Direct Assist® software simply highlight the desired number from the returned results and then select the 'Dial' option.
Check for the Direct Assist® software updates
To see if a newer version of the Direct Assist® software is available, just select the 'Check for Software Updates' option from the main menu.
Should an update exist, the Direct Assist® software will prompt you with a message asking you to visit wap.directassist.com.au. The latest version of the Direct Assist® software will always be available for download from this address.
Please Note: Most phones will also have a software update method included in their software. This method will vary from phone to phone, so please check your original phone manual for instructions.
Should your handset prompt you to save the data from the current version during the update process, we recommend you select YES. This will save you the need to re-enter your Software Key after the process has completed.
Exiting the Direct Assist® software
To exit the Direct Assist® software, select the 'Exit' option from the main menu. Alternatively you may press your phone's disconnect/hang-up button.
