WAP
Mobile phones use WAP to access a scaled
down version of the Internet.
HTTP
Recent mobile phones use HTTP to access
the full internet, similar to what you see
on your computer.
Selecting a connection
Most phones know which connection to use
automatically (WAP or HTTP), however some
phones require you to change connectivity
settings manually.
Direct Assist and Connectivity
Direct Assist uses:
- WAP when downloading the software to
your phone
- HTTP when doing a search or checking
for software updates on your phone
Issues you may encounter
- If you are trying to download Direct
Assist and your phone can't connect then
your WAP settings may need re-configuring.
- If you are trying to do a search on
Direct Assist and your phone can't connect
then your HTTP settings may need re-configuring.
To re-configure either of these settings,
select your phone model from the table above
and follow the instructions provided. These
settings depend on your phone model, country
and carrier. You will either be sent the
settings in a SMS or given instructions
for a manual setup procedure.
If your phone model is not listed in the
table, try setting your connectivity up
from your phone carrier's website.
Remember, it is always best to consult
your phone's user manual or contact your
network provider for further information.
Australia Only
The Optus
website allows you to set up your connectivity
(for most mobile phones) from the website.
The Telstra
website also allows you to set up your
WAP & MMS service on your WAP phone with
the assistance of user guides on the website.
The Vodaphone
website has a similar setup process
from the website for WAP and Internet configuration.
